Is AdaptivStudy free?

Yes. AdaptivStudy is free to use, with no account, no subscription, and no locked features. You open it in your browser and start studying.

Do I need an account?

No. There are no accounts or sign-ups. Your study data lives on your device, so there is nothing to log into.

Where is my study data stored?

On your device, in your browser's local database (IndexedDB). Nothing is uploaded to a server. You can export a versioned backup file at any time, and deleting your data is a deliberate two-step action in settings.

What can I study?

Anything you can put into a set. Use the Prompt Builder with your own AI to turn notes or a textbook chapter into one, paste a practice test that is already formatted, or build cards by hand.

What AI does AdaptivStudy use?

Your own. The Prompt Builder writes a calibrated prompt you paste into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any assistant you already use, then you paste the result back in. AdaptivStudy never calls an AI service itself, which is part of why it can stay free.

What question types does AdaptivStudy support?

Retain uses flashcards. Recall and Reason drill multiple choice, true or false, fill in the blank, select all that apply, and ordering questions, with explanations and source notes shown in review.

Does AdaptivStudy work offline?

Not as an installable offline app yet. AdaptivStudy runs in the browser and your data lives on your device, but the app itself currently loads over the network.

How do I back up or move my sets?

Export your data to a versioned JSON file and import that file on another device. The file is both your backup and your transfer method, and you can export with or without progress.

How is AdaptivStudy different from Quizlet, Anki, or Brainscape?

It is free with no account and keeps your data on your device, and it combines adaptive flashcards, question practice, and exam-style testing with difficulty built on Bloom's taxonomy and an Elo rating. See the comparison page for a side by side.
